Situated steps from the Duomo, the three-star Hotel Perseo offers stylish rooms at reasonable rates.

The Perseo’s 20 rooms are simple and modern. Red-and-orange or green-and-yellow color schemes reminded us of burnt Tuscan summers. Tall wooden headboards are flanked by fun wall-mounted lamps with contemporary square shades. Unique paintings and prints add colorful detail, and large windows provide views of either the Duomo or surrounding rooftops. Each room is equipped with a flat-screen satellite television and air conditioning. Private bathrooms feature stall showers and sleek chrome fixtures.

Outside the rooms, small tables and chairs are tucked into hallway corners, and the comfy TV lounge is outfitted with a computer and an assortment of books, brochures and magazines. Fun, cartoon-y prints of Renaissance archetypes decorate the cheerful orange breakfast room. (It must be noted that the hotel’s included breakfast includes some pretty sip-worthy espresso.)

The Perseo is located on the third floor of an old, elegant building, with elevator. The proprietors, a former travel agent who hails from New Zealand and her Italian husband, are a friendly duo.

All rooms are equipped with free wired Internet. There is also a free Internet station in the TV lounge, and Wi-Fi is free in the common areas and reaches to some (but not all) guest rooms.
