On a quiet part of Via Nazionale, the three-star Kursaal Ausonia, now boasting a massive rehab job, is still looking hot!
An oasis of tranquility, the structure sports modern touches and amenities, classic accents, and an extraordinarily enthusiastic and accommodating staff.
Twenty six rooms vary in size and color scheme. All of them are jazzed up with gilded frames, polished black wood, brass detailing, and clean solid-colored bedspreads. Furniture aims to achieve an antique vibe; indeed, antique reproductions here will fool a fast glance. Big, new, sea foam green-tinted bathrooms look and feel squeaky clean.
A sleek modern bar/lounge area near reception, and a Medieval-styled wooden table and chairs in the breakfast room result in an attractive style dichotomy. Wi-Fi runs smoothly all throughout, and perhaps most comfortably, from the comfy couches in the living room.
This is a pretty great place to bed down. Rates reach splurge levels during high season, but thankfully dip down to our preferred range during the rest of the year.

About the Hotel Kursaal Ausonia neighborhood
North of the train station, and decidedly the most colorful neighborhood in Florence, San Lorenzo is home to many of the city's foreign population, many of whom man the stands at the bustling local market. The area is the cheapest place to shop and snack in the center of the city. Peruse the stands wisely for real leather bags and accessories, and be on the look out for fakes. The streets around the market are home to kebab stands and Asian markets galore, as well as cheap clothing and shoe shops. San Lorenzo is also home to Fiaschetteria-Trattoria Mario, the real deal as far as authentic Florentine eating goes, miraculously unruined by fame. There's not one guidebook or magazine that hasn't plastered a logo on the front door.
