Nadia, the chipper owner of the ten-room, two-star Hotel Pensione Elite, really sold us on her modest little number. She's on top of her business, even pointing out luggage racks in the rooms. Budget travelers are the intended demographic here, no question. Rooms are done up in simple, dorm-room furniture, with smart, blue plaid bed covers and attractive art reproductions on the walls.
Floors are sparking clean all throughout, and even the bathrooms, some of which have only a curtain separating them from the rest of the bathroom (prepare yourself for a bit of a flood!) are polished and colorful. The few newer bathrooms have shiny, white appliances and all the trimmings.
Elite keeps its rates in wallet-friendly range by maintaining simplicity, but it's the hotel's hospitality and the views (of Santa Maria Novella's hustle and bustle) that make it a great place to bed down.
