The tiny one-star Hotel San Giovanni, is a great “budget-boutique” find with incredible views. Run by the same family as another EuroCheapo pick, Hotel Il Perseo, the San Giovanni is older and funkier than its sister establishment, and located directly across the street.
The San Giovanni's nine modest rooms are situated in an ancient palazzo, which served as a private residence for bishops during the 16th century. They have charmingly mismatched furniture, and gorgeously frescoed ceilings still survive in a few rooms today! A couple rooms look onto a small side street, but the most stellar ones offer direct views of the Duomo (ask ahead). Rooms here are basic: We’re talking virtually amenity-free. Some rooms are air conditioned, although others only have fans.
Some bathrooms are private, while others are shared. All are adequate and clean.
Wi-Fi is available for free in the common areas.

About the Hotel San Giovanni neighborhood
You can't miss Brunelleschi's magnificent dome atop the rosy marble Cathedral. It's the obvious central meeting point in Florence and the tourist hub of the city. Here, you're in the vicinity of practically everything: the Uffizi Museums, Palazzo della Signoria, the San Lorenzo Market and the Accademia. The big guns in Italian fashion are located along Via Tornabuoni and there are plenty of cafes and dining options.
