Located in the Oltrarno neighborhood on the south side of the Arno River, the Hotel Silla exudes an old-fashioned charm that we fell for immediately. It’s every bit the three stars it claims to be, with a lovely 15th-century courtyard, modern amenities, and higher rates to match. Silla's picturesque location and pretty decorative touches make it a good pick if you're in the mood to splurge.
The 36 rooms sport damask walls and classic Florentine style. The color scheme is a mix of baby blue, gold, and yellow. Some rooms boast sigh-inducing views of the river. All rooms are equipped with AC, satellite TV, a minibar, and a telephone. Bathrooms are medium-sized with soft grey and white tiles.
Blue parlor sofas and grandmotherly chairs grace the charming common area. The walls are done up in damask and sophisticated artwork, and the bar leads to a terraced seating area with views of the river. The staff is formal yet friendly and even sports uniforms, with vests and buttons and other such old-school details. (This is a fancy place and it shows!)
