The two-star Hotel Nouva Italia offers basic comforts with some unique touches, but its real draw is its fantastic location around the corner from the San Lorenzo market.
The hotel’s 20 guest rooms are quiet, despite their proximity to the market. Eclectic art and mod bathrooms add some pizazz to what are otherwise standard rooms with motel-style furniture. Air conditioning, satellite television and free Wi-Fi are offered throughout.
Quirky bathrooms sport fun rainbow or colorful solid tiling. Showers are Italian-style, although some have dividers to contain the water.
The Nuova Italia has an artsy flair, with pops of bright red and fun artwork (we spy a Picasso-crush!) throughout. Even the breakfast room tables are decorated with bright floral prints to complement brushed metal chairs, a cushy red couch and, yes, more art.
Breakfast is included. Note that the hotel does not have an elevator.

About the Nuova Italia neighborhood
North of the train station is one of Florence's most colorful neighborhoods. San Lorenzo is home to much of the city's foreign population, many of whom man the stands at the bustling local market. The area is the cheapest place to shop and snack in the center of the city. The streets around the market are home to kebab stands and Asian markets galore, as well as cheap clothing and shoe shops.
