We were shocked and delighted to find this budget gem, located right next door to the Duomo! Not only are the views spectacular (over either the Duomo or the baptistery), but rooms are also spacious and bright, with a dose of antique appeal. We were pinching ourselves by the end of our visit. But yes, this place – and the price - is for real.
Housed in a 14th-century palazzo, the Soggiorno Battistero offers large and light-streamed rooms, decorated in dark wood, with several real antiques as well as some great imitations. White walls maximize the sunlight, and hunter green or rose-colored bedding and accents add sophistication to the simple vibe. Artwork is scarce, but fun. Double-paned windows keep the main attraction and the surrounding masses seen and not heard, just the way we like it.
We were waiting for the big disappointment to come with the bathrooms, yet modern appliances are in perfect working order, and space abounds. All in all, this is one baby you'll want to book way in advance.

About the Soggiorno Battistero neighborhood
You can't miss Brunelleschi's magnificent dome atop the rosy marble Cathedral. It's the obvious central meeting point and tourist hub of the city. Here, you're in the vicinity of practically everything: the Uffizi Museums, Palazzo della Signoria, the San Lorenzo Market, and the Accademia. The streets surrounding the Duomo cater to visitors, with generic, all-day dining (for a price), and exclusive shopping. The big guns in Italian fashion are located along Via Tornabuoni (technically closer to Santa Maria Novella), with several others on Via Calzaiuoli, Via del Corso. Borgo Albizi, which starts behind the Duomo is more a boutique street, featuring handmade, original designs in clothing and accessories. Souvenir shops abound, as do street performers, caricature artists, and tourist traps.
