Famous citizen-rulers aside, the Basilica of San Lorenzo offers visitors some impressive Renaissance architecture. The basilica, which stakes its beginnings to 393 A.D, showcases works by Donatello and Bronzino.

When visiting, be sure to take in the sacristy designed by Brunelleschi (he designed the dome atop the nearby Duomo, too) and see the library that Michelangelo conceived.
