Centered smack in the heart of Old Town, the simple Hotel Neue Kräme is one of the most conveniently located hotels in Frankfurt. This three-star budget spot impresses in no single category, but as the saying goes, “location, location, location!”

The City Centre Neue Kräme’s 21 modest rooms are clean but a bit worn, and each is equipped with a telephone, TV and soundproof windows. Private bathrooms are more of the same. But, according to the elderly German couple we chatted up, the hotel is “totally in order.”

You don’t come to Neue Kräme so you can linger and feel pampered. In fact, we found that the staff could use some “friendliness training.” However, this hotel is a diving board that will launch you straight into the center of Frankfurt. It’s the perfect spot to take in the Old Town’s half-timbered Teutonic homes against a background of gleaming high rises.

Breakfast, included in the room rate, consists of a plentiful European buffet, replete with requisite croissants, toasts and other carbs piled next to slices of ham. Wi-Fi is available for an additional charge.
