Like its sister hotel the City Hotel Frankfurt, the City Hotel Mercator offers clean and updated rooms at affordable rates. It’s a reliable three-star hotel set in a tranquil and stately residential neighborhood, just a 10-minute walk from downtown.
Parquet flooring and dark wooden beds add a hint of sophistication to the City Hotel Mercator’s 34 guestrooms. The beige walls, however, could use a new coat of paint, and seem rather thin (sound from the hallways carries). All rooms are equipped with a television and phone.
The tiled private bathrooms are spotless, although we found the industrial soap dispensers (in lieu of the toiletries) more fitting for a YMCA than a hotel. But with singles starting at €38 a night, who’s complaining?
The hotel’s immediate surroundings may seem a tad sedated, but keep in mind that Frankfurt’s North End is in high demand. From the City Hotel Mercator, guests can easily walk (through a green park) to downtown, or trek up to Bergstrasse’s trendy shopping and eating possibilities.
Wi-Fi is free throughout, but can be spotty in some rooms. Breakfast is sometimes included in the room rate (check when booking).

About the City Hotel Mercator neighborhood
Situated to the north of the city center, this neighborhood boasts many upscale restaurants and wine bars, and is a favorite for celebrities. It’s also home to several green spaces. These include Günthersburgpark Park, the Chinese Garden in Bethmann Park and the park around the Holzhausenschlösschen castle. It’s easy to walk from here to the city center.
