Situated kitty-corner to the train station, the four-star Hotel National exudes a sort of elegance from a bygone era. Its spacious lobby is decked out with gilded brass railings, a French-themed dining room and red carpeting.

The Hotel National’s 74 guestrooms, however, are a standard business hotel affair: carpeted floors, wooden furniture, beds topped with plush white linens. All rooms are generously sized and equipped with coffee and tea facilities, a television, phone and minibar.

Some rooms appear to have been renovated, so ask for a newer one at check-in. Front-facing rooms may receive street noise despite soundproof windows (some back rooms, however, have dismal views of the backs of other buildings).

The private bathrooms boast clean bathtubs and immaculate white tiles, although some of the older ones could use a renovation.

Although it falls slightly short of our four-star expectations, we can’t deny that the Hotel National offers unbeatable location and good dollar-to-quality value.

Breakfast and Wi-Fi are both available for an additional charge, and there is a free Internet station in the lobby.
