Ibis Genève Centre Gare

As its name implies, the Ibis Centre-Gare is situated just a few steps from the central train station (“Gare”). The Geneva Ibis outpost does not veer from the formula that has made the budget hotel chain a household name in Europe: efficient service and comfortable rooms at reasonable rates. While it probably won’t be the most memorable part of your stay in Geneva, this two-star establishment is an eminently comfortable place with a convenient location.

The hotel is currently undergoing a thorough refurbishment of its façade, a result of which is that its 64 guestrooms now have windows that block out all outside noise—a good move, since the hotel isn’t too far from the train tracks. Inside, the rooms play it safe, with standard carpeted (and some hardwood) floors and plush bedding.

Standard is the code word here. Though small, the rooms are spotless, if not a tad soulless. All have a television but not all are equipped with air conditioning, so ask ahead if you require an air-conditioned room.
Though renovated in 2008, the private bathrooms are cramped, but all have perfectly adequate showers encased in clean white tiles.

The Ibis Centre-Gare generally appeals to a business crowd, which translates to lower rates when there are fewer business-folk in town. There are few bells and whistles, but green-minded travelers will appreciate that the hotel has been certified ISO 14001, the international standard for environmentally sustainable companies.

Breakfast is available for an additional CHF15. There is a free Internet station, and Wi-Fi is free in the lobby, although there is a CHF5 per day charge for in-room Wi-Fi.
