EuroCheapo review print this page

Hotel Kazimierz, located—not surprisingly!—in Kazimierz, caters to Jewish tourists and offers 35 attractive rooms.

From the outset, Hotel Kazimierz has an elegant sheen. The dark wood and marble reception, with its a stained-glass street-facing window, suggests just a touch of glamour.

Kazimierz's rooms are basically run-of-the-mill, with a number of dainty touches that veer into fussy aunt territory, such as lacy curtains and a pink-orange color palette. Bed units depart from this dainty motif. They're more contemporary, even vaguely minimalist, in cherry wood with attached bedside tables. Bathrooms are tiled in yellows and oranges, with precisely arranged toiletries.

About the Hotel Kazimierz neighborhood

Kazimierz, Krakow's historically Jewish neighborhood, is a quaint warren of tiny alleys and cramped streets southeast of Stare Miasto. For our purposes, we situate Kazimierz south of ul. Dietla, west of ul. Starowislna, and north and east of the winding Wisla. From the 15th Century until the Holocaust, Kazimierz was home to tens of thousands of Jews. Amazingly, several synagogues in the neighborhood survived World War II. These, along with some churches and the Old Town Hall, form the core of Kazimierz's traditional tourist draws. The neighborhood is a real treat beyond these sights, however, as it's phenomenally atmospheric, and flecked with cafes, bars, and restaurants. Stradom sits more or less in between Kazimierz and Stare Miasto. It's far more modern than the neighborhoods that border it, and consequently feels more like contemporary urban Poland than a typical tourist 'hood.
