The Dom Carlos hotel chain is not, typically speaking, Cheapo territory. These three-star hotels offer renovated rooms, modern style, top service, full breakfasts and, in most circumstances, higher rates than we'd consider.
However, during our last trip to Lisbon, we scored doubles at the Dom Carlos Park for €95, so we know that they dip down into our territory when they want to push out rooms. And thus, we write!
The three-star Dom Carlos Liberty is conveniently located along Rua Alexandre Herculano, just to the East of the Avenida da Liberdade. Renovated in 2004, the 59-room hotel is fresh and designed with panache.
The Liberty offers five types of rooms: Standard, Superior, Deluxe, Top Deluxe, and Suite. The Standard (the only type that we considered), is a touch smaller than the others and furnished with a queen-sized bed.
Rooms are attractively decorated with understated beige and white color schemes, oversized wooden headboards with inset leather, and throw pillows galore. Dom Carlos packs in all the amenities you'd expect, including TV, telephone, air-conditioning, and soundproofed windows. Bathrooms are glassy, spotless, finished in marble, and packed with modern fixtures. It's a comfortable and posh package.
A complimentary fitness center on the eighth floor offers guests exercise bikes, treadmills, and great rooftop views. A full-scale “Dom Carlos” breakfast buffet is served in the plush lounge every morning and included in the rate.
