We liked the Dom Carlos Park much more than we thought we would. Usually more apt to gush about family-run or independently minded hotels, we thought the Dom Carlos Park provided a well-deserved exception.
We were very happy here. We slept well, we ate well, and we were treated very well. The staff gave solid directions, good recommendations, and hailed us many a cab. The location is super convenient—just around the corner from the buzzing Marquês de Pombal where Avenida da Liberdade empties into the new city. And the metro is around the corner. (Sure, you could walk to Baixa in about 15 minutes. But if you're wearing heels, you'll appreciate this train stop—we promise.)
Rooms, of which our team occupied two, were spacious and clean. The beds were comfortable, the water pressure admirable, and we loved the row of cabinetry and shelving by the window, which offered lots of space to unload all our brochures, business cards, camera gear, and clothes. We drained the mini-bar (a real Cheapo no-no) and took full advantage of the complementary fruit basket.
Get a room facing the front. The leafy green trees from the miniature park in front make you feel like you're surrounded by greenery, sleeping far away from the hubub.
All in all, the Dom Carlos gets an A+ for those moments when you want comfort and no uncertainty. The only thing we could wish upon the Dom Carlos is a second Internet station (with cheaper rates) and an elevator with doors that close. (We just get creeped out seeing the walls of the shaft slide by.) |
