The Pensão S. João da Praça offers two floors of simple yet comfortable rooms, just across the street from the Sé Cathedral. Some rooms look onto the church's stark, 16th-century stone walls, while others open to fantastic (and more impressive) views of the River Tejo.
Rooms are sweet and airy, decorated with pleasantly mismatched furniture, pretty tiles, and funky lamps. The suite offers the best view by far and has a sitting room with a pullout bed.
The S. João has rooms with private or shared toilets (two per floor). The former come in the more attractive rooms, and the latter at least have a sink and bidet. Some of these rooms have an awkwardly placed shower stall in the corner, but at least you don't have to share!
The pension occupies the second and third floors of an elevator-less building, which is also home to the pretty
Sé Guesthouse.
