Just off the bottom of Avenida da Liberdade to the western side, the first-floor Residencia Roma offers 28 hotel-style rooms and 12 suites. The only reason, in fact, that it isn't classified as a hotel is because it doesn't have an elevator. Ah, technicalities!
Rooms at the friendly Roma are surprise-free and satisfactory. All are equipped with air-conditioning, satellite TV, telephone, and modern private bathrooms with colorful tiles. We found them very clean and functional, if somewhat lackluster in décor. Certain rooms overlooking the quiet Travessa da Glória have balconies.
Further up the mint and yellow cast-iron staircase, the Roma's four-person apartments are equipped with dining area, kitchenette (stove top, fridge, microwave), and washing machine. Some of these apartments are duplexes, while others have two rooms, side by side.
