Located 20 steps off Avenida da Liberdade up the sloping Travessa da Gloria, the first-floor Residencial Roma offers 28 hotel-style rooms and 12 suites.
Rooms at the friendly Roma are functional and reliable, if somewhat lackluster in décor. All are equipped with air conditioning, satellite TV and telephone. Room size varies, so we'd suggest asking for a larger room. Five rooms and two apartments overlook the quiet Travessa da Glória and have small balconies (ask ahead).
Modern private bathrooms are equipped with either shower or tub, and offer a hair dryer, soap and colorful tiles.
Further up the cast-iron staircase, the Roma's four-person apartments are equipped with dining area, kitchenette (stove top, fridge and microwave) and washing machine. Some of these apartments are duplexes, while others have two rooms, side by side.
A continental breakfast is included in the room rate. Wi-Fi is available in the lobby for a charge (€3 an hour). The pension is located next to a parking garage.

About the Pensao Residencial Roma neighborhood
The Avenida da Liberdade runs between two metro stations and is Lisbon's "Grand Boulevard." Lined with pricey shops, office buildings and restaurants, it's a broad, impressive street, and the major artery of Lisbon. As a general rule, the farther you walk from the river, the more modern it becomes. The Botanical Gardens are nearby.
