The Arran House, nestled among the Gower Street strip of bed-and-breakfasts, is a tad more expensive than most of its neighbors. But it's also a tad classier. The amiable John Richards and his family have been running the hotel since 1961 and, according to John, they have kept the handyman busy ever since.
Rooms are tastefully furnished and decorated with a pleasant country motif: Beds are plush and roomy, and carpets are fresh. Floral prints and curtains hang against cream-colored walls. Antique wooden tables and chairs add a touch of class, and closet space is ample. However, tight bathrooms, placed in the corner of older, spacious rooms, help you understand the term 'water closet.' Windows facing Gower Street are equipped soundproofed windows, offering some protection from the busy street.
Downstairs, the country cottage theme continues into the breakfast room. The well-kept back garden is a nice spot for breakfast on warmer days. It's also the only spot where smoking is permitted. |
