The three-star Castleton Hotel is a basic budget-friendly property with a top-notch location near Paddington Station. The 46 rooms are simple, but they do the trick.
Pros: Fantastic location near Paddington Station. Very clean. Friendly service. Elevator.
Cons: Small rooms. Wi-Fi is only available in public spaces.
Boasting a convenient location one minute from Paddington Station, the Castleton Hotel could work well for travelers looking for a clean, professional spot near the station. While the lobby area looks like an English drawing room, with its chandelier and just-so lampshades, the 46 guest rooms are quite a bit simpler.
There’s a lot of red at the Castleton: a rich red carpet, chairs upholstered in pink, modern, almost Pop Art pillows and oval, cherry-red tables. All of the Castleton’s rooms are equipped with air conditioning (rare on the London budget hotel scene), coffee/tea facilities, a TV and phone. Rooms facing the busy Sussex Gardens can be noisy, so we suggest that light sleepers ask for a back-facing room.
The private bathrooms, like the rooms, are comically small, but this is pretty much the norm for the city’s budget hotels. They are functional, clean and equipped with a hair dryer, shower and basic toiletries.
The Castleton is situated in a lovely Victorian home, and its reception area still resembles a classic parlor, complete with antique furnishings and gallery-style artwork.
A full English breakfast is included in the room rate. Wi-Fi is free but only accessible in the hotel’s public areas.

About the The Castleton Hotel neighborhood
Although the area surrounding Paddington Station is situated in Bayswater, we’ve set it aside as its own neighborhood, as it’s packed with (mostly uninspiring) budget hotels. Paddington Station is one of London’s major transportation hubs, and the Heathrow Express departs from here every 15 minutes during peak hours.
