The 12-room Collin House is part of the Ebury Street clan of hotels. The exterior is brick Victorian; the interior is cheerful "home away from home."
The Collin has double and twin rooms with a choice of en suite or shared facilities. All singles have private bathrooms, and the triples have shared. Décor is homey and cheerful, and furnishings are real wood—no shiny pressboard here. Knotty pine headboards, cabinets, and wardrobes could come straight out of a country cottage guest room. Some rooms have cheerful wallpaper. All have pretty comforters. Safes and televisions, though no telephones, come in every room. (A payphone is in the lobby.)
In the entrance hall there's a collection of menus from local restaurants along with a small shelf of books in case you've run out of reading material. Reception has limited hours: 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Guests get their own key to the front door.
The Collin House is the dear of several guidebooks, so reserve in advance.
