We’ve recommended the Crestfield Hotel for years. These days, the simple two-star spot is in need of a little TLC but it's a fine option for unfussy travelers looking to be near King’s Cross station. The Crestfield’s 56 rooms are clean, its location (on a quiet street set back from the bustle of Euston Road) is convenient, and its back garden is pleasant.
Quick read
Pros: Convenient location. Back garden. Clean.
Cons: A bit shabby. Small rooms. No elevator.
Rooms
Though small and basic, the Crestfield’s rooms are clean and cheerful, with pale yellow walls, white bedding and bright blue curtains. Furnishings are simple and dated but tidy. (We liked the cute, old-fashioned bedside tables.) A framed print here and there is the only room decoration to speak of.
All rooms are equipped with coffee and tea facilities, a flat-screen television and free Wi-Fi.
Bathrooms
The cheapest single and double rooms share facilities and the rest have private bathrooms. Some bathrooms are comically small, but all are bright and spotless, and many sport a border of pretty accent tiles. A hair dryer is provided, but toiletries are not.
Note that the shower is set off by a curtain only (no wall barrier), so the floors can get quite wet.
Hotel
The lovely Georgian building that houses the Crestfield Hotel has been used as a guesthouse for more than 100 years (the same family has run the current hotel for more than 30 years). Its lush back garden is outfitted with wooden patio furniture and plenty of greenery. The small hotel bar has a cool, throwback feel.
A continental breakfast is included in the room rate and Wi-Fi is free throughout. Note that the Crestfield does not have an elevator.

About the Crestfield Hotel neighborhood
While many Londoners will warn you to stay away from the streets around King’s Cross and St. Pancras stations, the area is in fact only seedy here and there. There are oodles of small (and affordable) B&Bs in the area, as well as upscale restaurants, and a real range of shops.
