EasyGroup, the parent company of easyJet among many other ventures, now also includes hotels in its empire. Thus far, the chain has established outposts in the UK, Switzerland and Hungary, with Cyprus and Dubai on deck. The easyHotel South Kensington has 34 en suite rooms, all fit into a gorgeous mansion located between the Gloucester and Earls Court Tube stations.
EasyHotel functions in a manner almost identical to easyJet. By this we mean that only the basics are covered. Everything else requires an extra charge. The very cheap starting rate of £25 will typically get you a windowless room. Toiletries are limited to soap. Using the television will run you £5 per day. And booking can only be done online, on the easyHotel site.
Anyone who’s ever flown easyJet can attest to the simple yet overwhelming easyGroup color scheme. It involves bright orange, and lots of it. One could be forgiven for assuming that easyHotel’s rooms would overwork the orange. Thankfully, restraint leads the way. The pod-like bathrooms do have orange floors and sinks, but these merely accent and “brand” the space. Bedroom walls sport a noticeable strip of orange, but again, there’s none of the full-on orange assault we feared.
The result is surprisingly subdued, even subtle. The rooms themselves are truly minimalist. You’ve got a duvet-covered bed, lighting, and the pay-per-view television, and not much else. Bathrooms are prefab and completely unadorned. The reception is open 24 hours and there is a vending machine on hand. Breakfast, needless to say, is not included.
On balance, we have to admit that we love the concept. Our Cheapo souls are warmed by the fact that you can snag a clean, private double room here for as little as £25 per night.
