Yet another beautiful bed-and-breakfast along Cartwright Gardens, the budget-friendly George Hotel is in a quiet area less than a 10-minute walk from the British Museum. As its name implies, the George is situated in a Georgian-era building. Guests have access to the private park across the street, which includes tennis courts. (Racquets and balls can be borrowed from reception.)
The 40-room George has a range of room sizes, from single-bed to family-use rooms. The wood furnishings and bed linens looked and felt like new. Bedrooms are spacious, yet have a warm, intimate feel. Not all have private bathrooms, though we must say the shared facilities were well scrubbed. All rooms have televisions with free film and sports channels.
A full English breakfast is included in the price, so get ready for bacon and beans in the morning. The Internet station in the lounge is free for guests to use.
