The Luna & Simone Hotel, located not far from Victoria Station on staid Belgrave Road, is a nice three-star hotel with extremely personable proprietors. It’s not cheap, but the friendly staff, convenient location and immaculate condition make this London gem worthy of a splurge.

Rooms
The Luna & Simone’s 36 rooms are cut from an identikit model: flan-colored walls, blue carpet, wooden, wall-mounted headboards. Many rooms have small desks, and we thought the bedside lamps were quite attractive. Bedspreads and curtains come in a few different blue-based patterns, and framed (rather generic) prints hang on the walls.
Unlike many hotels in this price range in more touristy neighborhoods, the Luna & Simone Hotel offers rooms of a decent size (some even big enough for morning calisthenics!). Amenities, on the other hand, are strictly the basics: a television, safe and coffee/tea facilities.
Bathrooms
The small private bathrooms are tiled, simple and impeccable clean, outfitted with glassed-in showers and a hair dryer.
Hotel
The Luna & Simone has been in the same family since Mr. Desira founded it in 1970. Today his two sons run the property, maintaining the homey, oh-so-friendly vibe.
A full English breakfast is included in the room rate, and a free Internet station is available (no Wi-Fi). Note that the hotel does not have an elevator.
Value
The Luna & Simone is a rare exception to our usual EuroCheapo rules. Its rates start just beyond our general rate limit for London budget hotels, but they are still affordable, especially for this coveted location. And given the hotel’s exceptional service and impeccable condition, we think that not only is is splurge-worthy, but it also offers a decent value for London. (Hey, there’s just something about this place.)
Location
The Luna & Simone is a great pick for those seeking a friendly hotel near a public transportation hub, yet in a relatively quiet corner of central London.
Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey and Big Ben are all located within a 20-minute walk from the hotel.

About the Luna & Simone Hotel neighborhood
The area near Victoria Station is undeniably convenient, although not aesthetically pleasing. Aside from its proximity to Victoria, the neighborhood is close to Buckingham Palace and the lovely St. James's Park. Those staying in London for more than a few days might want to look elsewhere, for charm if nothing else.
