The cozy, 30-room Macdonald Hotel isn’t the most charming or crisply designed hotel in London—or in the King’s Cross area, for that matter—but it will fit the bill for many. In its favor, it’s got double rooms with low nightly rates; rooms with shared facilities are an especially good deal.
The Macdonald’s rooms could use a renovation in the next few years, but are perfectly acceptable. We saw a large family room with single beds and a bunk bed. There’s a mix-and-match color scheme at play, with peach walls accented with framed reproductions of well-known paintings.
Bathrooms tend toward the cramped side, and showers share the floor with sink and toilet areas. (Guests should remember to avoid walking in their socks on wet floors after showering.) In sum, these rooms are acceptable, not too-cute-for-words. In addition to the budget-friendly price point, wireless Internet access is free at the hotel.
