Along Sussex Gardens, many hotels are in the midst of renovation and remodeling. The Omega Hotel has been there and done that. If plans for a budget stay in London include trips to near-by Hyde Park or Kensington Gardens, the Omega is the place to stash your picnic basket.
The building's exterior is typical for the street: a white Georgian edifice with simple, black signage. Unlike some of the other intensely decorated lobbies along Sussex Gardens, this one is simple and sleek. The white walls contrast well with brightly colored abstract paintings. The reception counter is frosted glass and the receptionist/photographer was one of the nicest guys we met on Sussex Gardens.
The rooms themselves take hip back a couple of decades: namely the 1890s, the 1980s, and the 1990s. Blond wood headboards, parlor lighting fixtures, and burgundy carpet with green floral accents make for quite a mélange of styles mixing within a single, double or triple. The mix of styles works surprisingly well and gives feels like a favorite auntie's guest bedroom.
The 40-year old hotel is clean and central and the price is nice. And, isn't that what we are really looking for here, folks?
