Sometimes you're just not in the mood for the quirks that can come with a "charming" B&B stay. If you should find yourself in one of those moods, then we recommend checking into the four-star Regency Hotel. It's not a Cheapo, but you get your money's worth. Service is reliable and the setting is refined. When we're in the mood to splurge, we love to stay at the Regency.
Located on lovely Queen's Gate in the heart of Kensington, near Hyde Park, the Regency is housed in a white, neo-classical building. The 210 rooms are stocked with amenities: air-conditioning, trouser presses, soundproofed windows, and bathtubs in most of the rooms. (If you need a minibar, upgrade to the superior level or a suite.) Decor consists of modern furnishings that offer the occasional nod to classic Georgian style.
Hotel services include 24-hour reception, a fully operational office center with Internet access, computers, and fax machines. The lobby is an exercise in elegant efficiency, with a friendly reception staff and concierge keeping everyone happy. The elegant bar and restaurant downstairs are full of folks in suits taking care of business. There's also a spa, if you're in need of a little pampering.

About the Regency Hotel neighborhood
Sandwiched between the posh neighborhoods of Kensington and Chelsea (and next to Earls Court), South Kensington is home to a quite few sightseeing gems, including the Victoria & Albert Museum, the Natural History Museum, the Science Museum, Imperial College, and the Royal College of Music. A wealthy neighborhood, South Kensington is a bit livelier (and cheaper) than adjacent hoods thanks to the students and tourists on its streets. You'll find clusters of restaurants and shops around the South Kensington and Gloucester Road Tube stations. Kensington Gardens forms the area's northern border.
