A 20-room guesthouse run by a friendly Britalian family of Sicilian origin, the Princess Hotel maintains a good budget-friendly standard that will satisfy bargain-hunting visitors to London.
Rooms are pretty, with floral-patterned comforters, rich cherry wardrobes and bed units, and burgundy carpets. While these rooms could never be accused of being over-designed, there are enough pleasing elements to render them a cut above most London hotels in their league.
The Princess offers rooms with both en suite and shared facilities. Private bathrooms are small and attractive, with black and white tiles. One shared bathroom sports a shared mint green bathtub—with matching toilet—that we hope never gets renovated out of existence. While Wi-Fi is free of charge throughout, there are no telephones in rooms.
The location, on the same guesthouse-laden street of one of our other favored London picks, the Alhambra, is extremely close to King’s Cross. Light sleepers, note that even though Argyle Street is fairly quiet, windows are double-glazed for that extra measure of insulation.

About the Princess Hotel neighborhood
King’s Cross is an area in flux. While many Londoners will warn you to stay away from the streets around King’s Cross and St. Pancras stations, the area is in fact only seedy here and there. There are oodles of small bed & breakfasts in the area, as well as upscale restaurants, and a real range of retail, from news agents, to shops peddling ethnic goods, to chain stores. King’s Cross benefits from proximity to Bloomsbury, and offers hotels that are, on average, quite a bit less expensive.
