Who doesn't want to stay at a youth hostel in a 550-year-old building steps away from St. Paul's Cathedral? (OK, maybe someone who doesn't want to sleep in a youth hostel, but we digress...) At the YHA London St. Paul's, pleasant surprises never cease. For instance, the building also used to be the training ground for St. Paul's boys' choir school. Sing it, brothers and sisters!
High ceilings, elegant draperies, silk flowers, and an original mantle piece make for a dramatic entrance. And the hostel boasts a rather atypical TV lounge -- a historic library with books lining walls from the floor to the 18-foot ceiling.
However, the spotless dorm rooms at the YHA St. Paul's are standard and decor-free hostel fare, with sinks, white beds, white walls, and white lockers. (If you don't have your own lock, you can purchase one at the reception.) In addition to dorms, the YHA City offers similarly sterile double rooms, though wood-framed beds and colorful cotton comforters add a little color.
Each floor is named after London streets. Will you sleep on Oxford Street or Carnaby Street? Which ever it is, a night sells for less than a song.
