Lyon City Guide Introduction

This city in the Rhône-Alpes region in the southeast of France traces its history from the Romans. Starting from the Renaissance, Lyon came to be known as “the silk capital of the world.” It’s also the birthplace of cinema, since it is here that the Lumière brothers created the first film in 1895. Today, Lyon is the second-largest city in France after Paris and home to a large business sector.
