Can you say "accesso del Internet"? The Hostal Benamar, located in Chueca across from the Museo Romantico, sports a computer with Internet in each room. Plus, rooms are f-r-e-s-h, with new doors, new beds, big TVs, AC, double-paned windows, and full, en suite bathrooms.
Air-conditioning is available in all the rooms, which look out either onto the street or a courtyard. The TV hanging from the ceiling gives the rooms a slightly hospital-room vibe, but the bedding is a comfy blue and white. Rooms get plenty of light from the windows.
Note: The Benamar is located on the second floor of a building with no elevator. Stair-averse individuals should take heed.

About the Hostal Benamar neighborhood
This up-and-coming area to the north of the Gran Via includes the main streets Hortaleza, Infantas, Barquillo and San Lucas and is considered the epicenter of gay Madrid. The center of life in this area is the buzzing Plaza de Chueca, packed with people on any spring or summer night, and close to Madrid's trendiest new restaurants, bars and dance clubs.
