This two-star hostal sits directly above Gran V&ieacute;a, in a building jam-packed with other hostals that we didn't like quite as much. The Hostal Residencia Felipe V caters to a mature guest list that appears to begin at age 30. We were also impressed by the sunny entrance's fresh paint job and grandiose antique windows, not to mention the large jutting balconies available in some rooms. Be sure to request a room with a balcony; these are quite impressive.
Down wide hallways covered by attractive runners are 20 rooms decorated with inexpensive faux wood furniture. While the light fixtures look like they're from the 1980s, the floors are brand new. Windows are soundproofed so traffic noise isn't the problem that it is in some of the other hostals in the building.
The Felipe V is one of the few hostals we found in Madrid that includes breakfast in the nightly rate. In addition, breakfast can be delivered directly to your room for no additional cost until 11 a.m. Good morning, indeed.
