Located in Salamanca north of the center of Madrid on the most fashionable street in the capital (near Dolce & Gabbana, Gucci, and anyone in Madrid who's ever commandeered an international runway) is this 17-room, family-run hostal. Hostal Salamanca lives up to the neighborhood's high standards of understated style, class, and top-of-the-line amenities.
Our favorite Hostal Salamanca amenity is the digitalized shower suites (installed during the hotel's 2006 renovation spree) found in all en suite rooms. In addition to a hydro massage, these brightly-tiled bathrooms feature a radio, a shower light, and a bench, which all more than make up for the small size of the bedrooms themselves. Fitted with Ikea furniture, springy new mattresses, and bed linens, rooms are clean and comfortable.
Four of the 17 rooms share bathrooms and a common sitting area. These sitting areas boast a television, a refrigerator, a trendy Ikea table, and views of the street below.
The hostal lends out a laptop computer at no charge for Wi-Fi access. Hostal Salamanca has easy access to busses and the Metro, and nearby is a quiet, little-known park that locals like to rave about.
