If you're not opposed to shelling out a few extra euros, then check into the three-star Hotel Regente. It's worth it! Situated on a quiet side street just off the Gran Via, this 153-room hotel has fresh rooms with attractive furnishings in a (surprisingly tasteful) mix of modern and early 1900s.
All rooms are air-conditioned, the bathrooms are spotless, and wireless Internet access is available throughout the hotel. Each floor hosts a hip little hangout area, furnished with stylish lamps, tables, and cozy couches. (One is designated as non-smoking, so request ahead of time.) The continental breakfast, which costs an additional eight euros, is served in the dining room.

About the Hotel Regente neighborhood
The Gran Vía, Madrid's main boulevard, stretches majestically from the Plaza de España and encompassesthe Puerta del Sol. The Gran Vía is like no other avenue in Madrid. It's a truly grand boulevard populated by impressive and massive art-nouveau buildings, cinemas, shopping, and theaters. Both pricey (three-, four- and five-star hotels) and cheapo (one-star pensions) accommodations populate the Gran Vía.
