Dover

The Hotel Dover is a two-star gem located near the Metro San Babila, a short tram ride from the Duomo. We‘ve always loved this small, family-run establishment for its quality and convenience, but on our latest visit the Dover’s polished new look—combined with its still reasonable rates—really impressed us.

The 14 rooms at the Hotel Dover recently received a full makeover, which bestowed them with flat-screen TVs and parquet floors. The still wood-paneled rooms are now dressed up with mirrored armoires, elegant gray paint and red-striped bedding and curtains. The “Madonna and Child,” Raphael’s angels and historic depictions of historic Milan (men on horseback surrounding the Duomo, etc.) still grace the walls.

All rooms are equipped with soundproof windows, air conditioning, a safe, mini-fridge and television. The private bathrooms are shiny and newly renovated.

Perky and professional Signor Ninno Vaselli leads the friendly staff at the Hotel Dover. The lobby doubles as a bar/lounge/breakfast area, with a sliver of space allotted to each function. There is a miniature bar built into a corner, and café tables rub up against a comfy white sofa. Vintage posters and photographs from around the world round out the scene.

Breakfast is included in the room rate. Wi-Fi is available for an additional charge. Note that the Hotel Dover has steep spiral stairs and no elevator.
