We were surprised to find such low prices at the Hotel Vecchio Milano, which sits on a charming, sophisticated street that’s strewn with art galleries and just far enough from the touristy Duomo area. Hotel Vecchia Milano (which means Old Milan) is a polished-up old place that makes up for its slightly shoddy rooms with a pleasant exterior, smiling staff, and unbeatable prices.

The lobby is simply lovable with a bar and breakfast room on one end, an attentive receptionist close by, and original wood beamed ceilings. No one seems to know just how ancient the building is, but narrow hallways, tight corners, and the fact that a very authentic-looking rustic column shoots straight up from the lobby to the second floor, hints at something from the last century at least.

The 27 rooms, all with en suite bathrooms, have been scrubbed clean, but the dorm furniture and floor tiles are definitely showing some wear and tear. The hotel has added some green marble here and there for flair, but in the end, the hotel still maintains that sense for the ‘Old Milan’. The same goes for the bathrooms, which used to be white, and are now a sad shade of pale grey. Nevertheless, you’ll still feel fine walking around barefoot.

Overall, we’re looking to save money and sleep in the heart of it all, and the Old Milan does the trick.
