The London is a typical Cheapo crowd pleaser. When we first entered the lobby, the Gambino family (No, not that one!) was clustered around a sweet little bar just off a cozy living room. Overstuffed antique couches upholstered in Kelly green velvet, and walls crammed with art and photos—and that friendly family feel—had us smitten. And, then we saw the very reasonable room rates.

Rooms at the London are a hodgepodge of décor, with bedding that looks like your granny’s colorful afghan might be mixed with funky, 1970s armoires. Walls are freshly papered, and bright green carpet keeps things lively. Some of the 29 rooms have en suite baths and others offer shared facilities. The bathrooms are clean and basic, all in working order and just the right size.

The Gambinos have run the London for some thirty years, and they seem happy to welcome their guests. You’ll likely enjoy your time inside, but the location near the Duomo and Sforzesco Castle will keep you out and about.
