A 58-room charmer, the three-star Hotel Nuovo Marghera is not only within walking distance of Da Vinci’s masterpiece, The Last Supper, but it’s also got an art gallery of its own. Permanent and rotating collections by local artists line the orange walls of the reception area and breakfast lounge, where scattered tables and chairs sport a linear 1980s feel.
Don’t be put off by the dingy carpeting and Missoni-inspired plastic wallpaper, as recently renovated rooms are perfectly in line with the artistic vibe. Rooms have minimalist furnishings in sophisticated shades of cream and beige, and bathrooms are spacious with extra-large (for Italy) showers and toilets.
With a Metro stop right outside and Santa Maria delle Grazie so close, you’ll likely spend most of your time romping about Milan. However, the friendly staff—and nice prices—will make coming home a pleasure.
