A lesson in book-cover judging, the three-star Hotel Zefiro may look big and anonymous from the outside, but inside it exudes the quirky appeal of a family-run establishment.

The Zefiro’s 55 rooms are big on space and comfort, with bright yellow walls, terracotta floors and lime-green bedding. Large mirrors hang over dressing tables, and giant armoires are painted to look like aluminum. (Cue to fashionistas: You can shop and primp to your heart’s content.)

Rooms are equipped with air conditioning, soundproof windows, a telephone, minibar and TV. Some also have balconies (ask ahead). The private bathrooms are big and blue. They aren’t new, but they’re in great shape.

The on-site restaurant is a modern departure from Hotel Zefiro’s understated style, and jolly chef Gerardo whips up seasonal specialties, paired (naturally) with a lengthy wine list.

We were pleasantly surprised by the Hotel Zefiro. It’s got all the amenities of a big hotel with the charm and convenience of a small one.

Both parking and breakfast are available for additional fees. Wi-Fi is free throughout.
