A hop away from Central Station, the three-star Amba is an obvious pick for its convenient location and three-star amenities.
Rooms fall into three categories: economy, comfort, and superior. Economy rooms, unsurprisingly, are the cheapest and face the train station (which can be noisy). These rooms sport 90s-style furnishings, while comfort and superior rooms have a more modern look and bigger beds.
All bathrooms are private and have funky, rainbow-colored lights. Economy rooms have the smallest facilities, while baths in the comfort and superior rooms are more spacious and boast heating racks and tubs.
Popular with business travelers, Amba has a conference room along with a breakfast buffet and a large (smoker-friendly) lobby and lounge. The family-run hotel is named after the original owners A(lfred) and M(athilde) Ba(umann).

A mostly nondescript, modern neighborhood running several blocks north of the Hauptbahnhof (Munich's main train station), this area features a number of hotels. Interesting shops and a handful of bars and cafés as well as the odd building of architectural interest punctuate the 'hood.
