Munich’s CVJM/YMCA is a good pick for Cheapos who want a hostel without the party scene. Rooms are bare-bones basic, but the rates and the central location are hard to beat.
The CVJM offers 13 singles, 16 doubles, and 17 triples. Some single rooms offer balconies (ask ahead), and all come equipped with a small reading lamp. While all bathroom facilities are shared and located in the halls, all rooms do have with sinks.
The newly remodeled lobby has a breakfast nook, a small library, vending machines (coffee and tea is available for free), and a wide array of tourist brochures. A small chapel and a game room—complete with a ping pong table—are downstairs.
Some will find the church-run hostel's enforced morality a bit much: if you are an unmarried couple, you will have to sleep in separate rooms, for example. If these rules don't bother you, however, the CVJM could be a good choice for a cheap city stay.

About the CVJM/YMCA Muenchen neighborhood
The blocks south of the Hauptbahnhof, or main train station, feature a staggering number of hotels. Many of Munich's sex shops can also be found here, as well as shopping, restaurants, bars and cafés. Stadtmitte is also nearby and very well served by public transportation.
