CVJM is an acronym. It stands for Christlichen Verein Jungen Menschen, or the Christian Young People's Association, the German version of the YMCA. Right off the bat, know this: if you are part of a heterosexual couple and you are not married, you will not be able to sleep in the same room. To us, this seems a bit archaic, or worse. While we were waiting to inspect the hostel, a young crestfallen couple was refused a shared room. We wonder what they thought of this policy as they sulked off.
But on to the hostel itself. A gleaming and simple entryway features shelves of items for sale: Christian music, toiletries, snacks, and touristy objects like postcards. The rooms (3 singles, 17 doubles, 16 triples) are extremely clean and shiny. The three single rooms enjoy private balconies. While no rooms have private bathroom facilities, quite a number have private sinks.
If you can deal with the hostel's rules and bare bones simplicity, then the CVJM is a quiet and gleamingly clean low-cost treat.
