Hotel Blauer Bock is a cheapo's fantasy hotel, a diamond in the rough. We unambiguously proclaim it to be one of the friendliest, and one of our favorite, hotels in Munich. Just off the Viktualienmarkt in one of Munich's super touristy hoods, Blauer Bock maintains the kind of loyal repeat customer base to which most hotels can only aspire. Accordingly, the lobby feels almost like a social club, not a hotel reception.
Housed in a demure yellow building set on a small square, Blauer Bock has been operating as a hotel since 1914. Rooms are prim and straightforward, with floral curtains, off-white walls, and pretty lacquered furniture. Though neither fancy nor stuffed with accoutrements, rooms are more than adequate. Only four rooms at the Blauer Bock have televisions, but ask yourself: do you really need a television with the Viktualienmarkt just outside? We think not.
Lovely rooms aside, a beer from the front desk will only set you back one euro. Yeah, you got that right—€1. And you can even take the bottle-opener back to your room with you.
