Normally, chain hotels aren't really our thing, but we are increasingly being won over by Ibis hotels. Maybe the value of the hotel relative to the city in question is especially good; maybe we feel that the design and layout are particularly crisp and appealing.
Our no-longer-quite-so-secret crush on the Ibis Munchen City is a product of its relatively good value as well as its welcoming feel. While we visited, we witnessed staff juggling unreasonable requests and several languages, without registering a bump of annoyance. The reception and bar area is spacious and lively.
The 202 rooms at the Ibis Munchen City are utterly identical, though perfectly nice. Green bedspreads and curtains are set against beige prefab walls. Everything is so clean it sparkles. The simple Ibis pricing scheme, with comparatively small spikes for Oktoberfest and conventions, is also a bonus.
