Located a five-minute walk north of the train station, the 202-room Ibis Munchen City offers a surprise-free stay in a convenient spot.
You know what you’re getting here. Rooms adhere to the chain's decorative standards: Wooden floors and desks, with plaid bedspreads and curtains set against beige walls. All are equipped with a TV, free Wi-Fi and air conditioning (which is a nice perk for Munich). Bathrooms are sparkling and equipped with showers.
The breakfast room, decked out in décor left over from the '90s, could use a makeover, but the reception and bar area are spacious and bustling.
Is it a good deal? As always with Ibis, it depends on the rates offered during your visit. When we last visited the hotel, the rates for that day were €102, which struck us as a bit high. However, they rise and fall according to demand in the city, so you might find a much better deal when you search.
Note: The area around the hotel is quite busy and can be noisy (thank goodness for that air conditioning and soundproofed windows!). Breakfast is offered for €10.

About the Ibis Munchen City neighborhood
A mostly nondescript, modern neighborhood running several blocks north of the Hauptbahnhof (Munich's main train station), this area features a number of hotels. Interesting shops and a handful of bars and cafés as well as the odd building of architectural interest punctuate the 'hood.
