The two-star Hotel Monaco, located south of Central Station, offers reasonably priced rooms with a bed and breakfast charm that sometimes veers into kitsch.
Although the Monaco looks a bit dreary from the outside, the 22 rooms are decorated in warm tones, mismatched lace, and floral patterns. Rooms are spacious and sport high ceilings. The furniture and gorgeous wooden flooring have a "Little House on the Prairie" vibe.
Bathrooms could stand some work, as fixings look old and the shower curtains are skimpy. However, they are clean and functional.
The Hotel Monaco offers laptop, umbrella, and hot water bottle rentals at the front desk. The friendly staff offers an e-card greeting service, among other things.

About the Monaco neighborhood
The blocks south of the Hauptbahnhof, or main train station, feature a staggering number of hotels. Many of Munich's sex shops can also be found here, as well as shopping, restaurants, bars and cafés. Stadtmitte is also nearby and very well served by public transportation.
