Naples neighborhoods

Central Station

Naples' central Garibaldi train station is located on the east side of town in a piazza of the same name. The area is surrounded by street markets, hotels and public transportation. Be on the alert, though, as some hotels in the area double as brothels. Naples' central Via Duomo is less than a mile from the station due west.

Chiaia

Chiaia is a neighborhood running along the Tyrrhenian Sea a couple of miles west of downtown Naples. The area is easily accessible to the downtown via public transportation. The Naples Art Palace is nearby on Via dei Mille.

A funicular leaving from Via del Parco Margherita runs along Villa Floridiana and goes to the Duca di Martina National Ceramic Museum.

Historical Center

The center of historic Naples is considered its cathedral at the intersection of Via del Tribunali and Via Duomo. From here, the main street running east/west through Old Naples is the Spaccanapoli. Naples' central train station is within walking distance and a tourist information office is located near Basilica di Santa Chiara. Cafes and restaurants have the area covered and the neighborhood is well-serviced by public transportation.

Plebiscito

Plebiscito is a neighborhood that's located a half mile southwest of central Naples on the Tyrrhenian coast. The area is easily accessible by public transportation and is full of tourist attractions, shopping, restaurants and cafes. Ovo castle is situated on the coast and a royal palace is near the neighborhood's piazza adjacent to Parco Castello.

An information center is on Via S. Carlo and a funicular going up to Piazza Fuga near Villa Floridiana begins near Teatro Augusteo.

Vomero

Vomero is situated in the hills surrounding Villa Floridiana Park a mile northwest of the Naples' city center. The area is serviced by three funicular lines leaving from Montesanto, north of downtown, Augusteo in Plebiscito and Parco Margherita, north of Chiaia. Metros also run through the neighborhood.

Two movie theaters are located here as well as the Castel Sant'Elmo which sits near St. Martin Chapel on the east side of the "quartieri."
