Located next door to a brewery and billiards hall and just around the corner from the Beacon Theater, this "budget boutique" offers basic rooms and sparse amenities in a shopping and restaurant-rich nook of the Upper West Side.
Standard rooms are spruced up with some funky touches. Wavy iron frame mirrors and bedspreads with abstract patterns and checkerboard trim offset the faux-wood furniture. Bathrooms feel new with Italian tile walls and glass showers.
Though we wouldn't term this hotel boutique (the Amsterdam Inn's Web site does), the attractive lounge, Internet access, and in-room coffeemakers are nice touches for budget bedding.
