As the name suggests, this hostel's best amenity is its proximity to Central Park. But the Central Park Hostel is also clean, secure, affordable, and full of character ... not to mention a few surprises.
The lobby, with Warhol-esque images of Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn and mural of Central Park has plenty of pluck. Upstairs, shared rooms cater to the young and international. These are standard bunk 'n' locker affairs, though two-person dorms afford more privacy.
So what's the surprise? The Central Park also offers two recently renovated studios with private bathrooms. These have hardwood floors, and fresh bathrooms with new cabinetry, tiles, and showers. The modest kitchen nooks have a microwave, mini-fridge, and hot plates for light cooking.
A basement lounge is more on par with standard hostel fare, and includes a pool table, couch, and television.
All rooms share toilets. Linens are provided, but bring your own padlock. Credits cards are OK for reservations, but you must you cash to pay for your stay.
