Located on a side street between Times Square and Avenue of the Americas, the economical yet convenient Broadway @ Times Square Hotel (formerly the Comfort Inn Midtown) eschews the bright lights and blaring marquees in favor of more traditional décor. The three-star spot is simple yet comfortable, and it can be an excellent value for the super-central location.
Quick read
Pros: Excellent value with good inclusions (breakfast, business center). Central location.
Cons: Compact rooms. Slow elevator.
Rooms
The 79 guest rooms at the Broadway @ Times Square are trim and modern, with minimal detailed flourishes. The color scheme is muted earth tones offset by furnishings of cherry wood. There are no surprises here (just like we like our hotel rooms!).
All rooms are equipped with air conditioning, a telephone, flat-screen TV, iPod dock, safe and coffee maker.
Bathrooms
The private bathrooms are simple yet clean, some with tubs (ask ahead). All offer toiletries and a hair dryer.
Hotel Facilities
The Broadway @ Times Square’s lobby is positively prim, with chandeliers and heavy, ornate draperies. Victorian artwork adorns the walls, complementing the antique furniture and gilded ceiling medallions while begging the question, “Is it tea time yet?”
Guests have complimentary use of a fitness center and a 24-hour business center with fax/copy machines and computers with Internet access.
Wi-Fi is free throughout. A continental breakfast is included in the room rate. Guests of the Broadway @ Times Square receive a reduced rate ($26 per day) at a nearby parking garage. The hotel has an elevator (although many guests complain that it’s quite slow).
Location
The Broadway @ Times Square Hotel is just east of its namesake location–still in the center of Times Square but just outside the spotlight (and the madness). Rockefeller Center, the Museum of Modern Art and Fifth Avenue shopping are all just minutes away on foot, and Central Park, Grand Central Terminal and Bryant Park are all about a 15- to 20-minute walk from the hotel.
There are plenty of watering holes in the area as well, including O'Brien's Irish Pub across the street. Havana Central, located just down the block, is famous for making a mean mojito, and there is often live salsa music in the evenings.

About the Broadway @ Times Square Hotel neighborhood
Midtown West is packed with tourists sights... and tourist-class hotels. Working west from Fifth Avenue to Eighth Avenue, the Theater District is home not only to all the Broadway babies, but to Rockefeller Center, Radio City Music Hall, and the Museum of Modern Art. Not to mention Times Square—an entity within itself. Although most New Yorkers steer clear of this congested (and now pedestrianized) area, the neon lights, larger-than-life billboards, and wise-talking street vendors keep the visitors coming. And coming. And coming.
