Perched in an historically-registered corner of Harlem adjacent to the pre-Revolutionary War Morris-Jumel Mansion (well worth a visit), the Michael NY is a small family-run guesthouse.

The guesthouse’s four rooms could never be accused of being overdesigned. They're bright white numbers, very clean and completely minimalist. Rooms offer satellite television and computers with free Internet. Two shared bathrooms are quite clean.

Michael NY is a quirky, friendly space. The aesthetic is clean-cut and (both literally and otherwise) familial. The guesthouse feels like a friend's pad you're crashing in for a bit. The immediate neighborhood is heart-achingly beautiful. A quiet, long-lost bit of New York City, it is just minutes from the hubbub of Upper Manhattan.

The proprietors offer English language lessons to their guests, many of whom are Japanese. There is a two-night minimum requirement. Though the vibe is admittedly very informal, the proprietors go out of their way to provide concierge-style services for their guests. They've also developed a tradition of a weekly group dinner designed to introduce their guests to a favorite local restaurant.
