Editor's Splurge-worthy Pick
Ian Schrager certainly made a wise decision when he hired Andree Putman to give Morgans Hotel a makeover. The décor is chic yet warm, with earthy tones keeping things contemporary yet inviting. Though it doesn't have the ultra modern flare of other Schrager hotels, the Morgan does offer a level of sophistication that any staid, trend-averse traveler would appreciate.
The rooms are comfortably furnished and immaculately clean, with suede-covered window seats, club chairs, and corduroy ottomans. Egyptian cotton sheets (300 thread count), down comforters, and Agua Bathhouse toiletries round out the high-end creature comforts. The bathrooms, tiled from floor to ceiling, are adorned with sleek stainless steel sinks.
And if one famous design name isn't enough for you, the hotel's restaurant, Asia de Cuba (a tasty destination in its own right) was designed by Philipe Starck. In addition, the Morgans Bar boasts a funky fusion of Louis XVI-inspired furnishings, exposed brick, and chain-link curtains.
All in all, Morgans is a versatile spot, appropriate for the trendy and unassuming alike.
